If you think every awards video is the same, think again. John writes, “Moe Masoudi of Moetion Picture is a genius! A crazy, wonderful, big-hearted, one-of-a-kind, brilliant and amazing genius. And loveable, too. I came up with a number of ideas for this video and each and every time Moe listened attentively, smiled warmly, nodded his head kindly, and then said “let’s try this.” After a couple of hours, I kinda got the idea that this would be HIS brain-child, HIS vision, HIS production, not mine and I’m most thankful for that. This video is all the better for Moe’s mastery, art, and sense of humour. The only thing better would be if there were more shots of my dog, Lady, and fewer of me as the Tramp. Thank you, Moe. You d’best!” See more of Moe’s work: https://www.youtube.com/c/MOETIONPICTURE?app=desktop

Presented on October 3, 2024 at their 75th Anniversary Gala, the Stoney Creek Chamber of Commerce honoured John as their Citizen of the Year. In offering thanks, John turned the tables so to speak, when he spoke about other people’s extraordinary accomplishments.

As the ‘opening act’ for Rick Mercer (that’s him in the foreground with his finger in his ear), John wisely left his dad jokes at home and stuck to the serious stuff as he honoured the staff at Emmanuel House Hospice.

From the CBC website: John VanDuzer is a marketing pro and fundraiser for charities. He delivered a seven-week sermon series that eventually became the book Loonie: Crazy Talk about Finances and Faith. (Maybe the Canadian one-dollar coin has a more perfect name than anyone realized.) VanDuzer dropped by the Tapestry studio to think out loud about faith and finances.
Scripture: Psalm 90

In the first of what I hope will become a series of short messages to be shot in Winona ‘The Fifty’ Cemetery, I explore important issues of life and death without getting preachy. Today, I wonder aloud, “how do you smile though your heart is aching? How do you smile even when it’s breaking?” SMILE explores the important difference between happiness and joy. This video is done in memory of my brother-in-law, Steve.

Invited to preach at Burlington’s Wellington Square, I was happy to oblige even if the Biblical text was not too familiar to me and their standard 30-minute sermon length proved daunting. And then COVID struck! Added to the heap of challenges was that the sermon needed to be videotaped. For better (and, occasionally, worse) here’s my first foray into video. Huge thanks to my daughter, Anna, who edited the beast and added the graphics. No, this isn’t a good sermon, but it does include a good message and Elio’s story will inspire you!
